How to play Tarot Solitaire
The goal: move all 56 cards to the four foundations at the top, one per suit. Start each foundation with its Ace and build up to its King.
The columns: place a card on one that is one rank higher and the other colour. For example, put a red Six of Cups on a blue Seven of Swords. You can move a whole sequence by selecting its first card. A face-down card turns over automatically when you uncover it.
Empty spaces: only a King (K), or a sequence beginning with a King, can fill an empty column.
The stock: tap to draw one or three cards. Only the top card of the waste is available. When the stock runs out, tap again to turn the waste back over without shuffling. You may go through it as often as you like.
Court cards: after 10 come Page (P), Knight (N), Queen (Q) and King (K). Wands and Cups have red labels; Swords and Pentacles have blue labels. These are visual aids for this game, not traditional tarot colours.
Helpers: a hint suggests a legal move, not a guaranteed solution. Undo goes back up to 120 actions, including draws and stock resets. You can also move the top foundation card back to a column. “Finish foundations” appears once the game verifies that all remaining cards can be collected without further choices.
If you get stuck: try undoing, replay the deal or start a new one. Not every random deal can be won. There is no timer or penalty for using helpers.
Touch and keyboard: tap a card and then its destination; dragging is not required. Use “Enlarge board” for bigger cards. With a keyboard, Tab moves between controls, Enter or Space selects, and Escape clears the selection.

Tarot Solitaire turns the minor arcana into a game of patience and strategy. You do not need to interpret the cards: their rank, suit and the order in which you uncover them are what matter. Collect Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles on four foundations, from Ace to King.
Solitaire with 56 tarot cards
This adaptation uses the seven-column layout and our existing Rider-Waite illustrations. Each suit keeps all fourteen cards: Ace, 2 through 10, Page, Knight, Queen and King. The 22 major arcana are not part of this game. The tableau begins with 28 cards; the remaining 28 form the stock.
Build down in columns and up on foundations
In the columns, go down one rank at a time and alternate red and blue labels. Wands and Cups are red; Swords and Pentacles are blue. These colours are a convention of this game. Empty columns take a King or a sequence starting with one. The foundations work in the opposite direction: Ace to King, all in the same suit.
Court ranks are marked P, N, Q and K. Select a card and press “View card” to see its full illustration and name. To move several cards together, select the first card of the sequence and then a highlighted destination.
Draw one or draw three
Drawing one makes every stock card available as you turn it over. Drawing three lets you use only the last card shown; playing it exposes the one below. Once the stock is empty, you can go through the remaining cards again in the same order.
Try a different approach
Hints show permitted moves, prioritising hidden cards, but do not guarantee a win. Undo includes draws and stock resets. Replay deal starts a fresh attempt with the same initial layout; a new deal changes the cards. “Finish foundations” appears only when the remaining cards can be collected directly. Some random deals may not be solvable.
