Leo in love
The standard complaint about Leo in love is that it needs to be the centre of attention. True enough, and it misses the more useful half of the picture: a lion is equally determined to put you at the centre of attention. Being adored by this sign is not a subtle experience. It is announced, funded, introduced to everyone and photographed.
The Sun rules Leo, and the Sun does not do half measures or discreet warmth. It shines on whatever it has chosen, generously, and it notices immediately when nothing comes back.
Generosity is the tell
You will know a lion has fallen for you because it starts spending — money, yes, but mostly effort. It plans the birthday six weeks ahead. It remembers the band you liked when you were seventeen and finds them playing somewhere. It tells its friends about your promotion before you do, at length, with pride that is entirely genuine and slightly embarrassing.
This is not a transaction, and treating it as one is the fastest way to insult a Leo. It gives because giving is its natural register. What gets mistaken for vanity
- Telling the story loudly at dinner. Leo is performing for the table because it wants the evening to go well, not because it needs the floor.
- Choosing the restaurant, the trip, the sofa. Decision-making feels like a service it is providing. Nobody has ever told it that being asked can be nicer than being organised.
- Needing to look good. Half theatre, half armour. The presentation is how a fixed fire sign holds itself together on the days it does not feel magnificent at all.

The sulk, and how it starts
A lion rarely explodes at a partner. What it does instead is go regal: cool, polite, unusually formal, dispensing one-word answers from a great height. This is a wounded sign, not an angry one, and the wound is almost always the same — it felt taken for granted, or it was contradicted in front of other people.
The repair is simpler than for most signs and requires no cleverness. Say the specific true thing out loud, and say it warmly. Not "sorry you're upset" but "I should not have said that in front of your brother, and you were right about the money." A lion cannot stay cold in the face of a straight compliment or a real apology. Pride is enormous here, but it is a doorway as much as a wall.
How to lose one
Not by arguing — Leo can take a fight, even enjoys one. You lose a lion by indifference. By forgetting the thing it was nervous about. By being embarrassed to be seen with it. By treating its enthusiasm as childish, which is the cruellest available move, because the enthusiasm is the sign's best quality and it half suspects you are right.
Betrayal is a different order of matter altogether. A Leo's loyalty is total while it lasts and does not survive humiliation. Cheat on one and it does not plead or negotiate: it walks out with its head up and never explains, and the friends who hear about it will hear the edited version, which is a mercy for everyone.
What it needs said
That it is loved on the bad days too. The unspoken fear of every lion is that the affection is really for the performance — the charm, the confidence, the paid dinner — and that the tired, unimpressive, unfunny version would not hold anybody. Tell it otherwise on a Tuesday when nothing is happening and you will see a sign nobody at the party ever meets.
It also wants to be proud of you in public, which some partners find lovely and others find like being entered for a prize. If it is not your temperament, say so plainly rather than shrinking away on the night — a lion can adapt to a quiet partner, but it cannot adapt to what it has not been told.
Where the pride is safe
Aries and Sagittarius match its heat and, crucially, are not intimidated by it; fire wants a partner who takes up space of their own.
