How we calculate your lunar return
We find the moment when the Moon returns to its natal tropical geocentric ecliptic longitude. We do not add 28 days or look for a new Moon. The numerical search uses Astronomy Engine, served from this website. A return to a zodiacal longitude is not a return to the same illuminated phase.
Your recorded local birth time is converted to UTC using the city’s historical time zone. A repeated clock time requires you to choose its offset; a nonexistent time is rejected. We do not invent a noon birth time. The accuracy of the record and historical time-zone data limits the result, particularly before 1970.
The chart uses the return location, the tropical zodiac and equal 30° houses starting at the Ascendant. The Midheaven is calculated separately and need not coincide with the tenth-house cusp. We do not use Placidus, precession correction for the return, lunar nodes or topocentric parallax. At latitudes of ±66° or higher, Ascendant and houses are omitted; planetary positions and aspects remain.
The three themes come from the Moon’s house, the Ascendant’s sign and the Moon’s tightest major aspect to another planet in the return chart, not to natal planets. We allow up to 6° for conjunctions, squares, trines and oppositions, and 4° for sextiles. Without a qualifying aspect, the solar focus is used. At high latitudes, Moon and Sun signs replace houses and Ascendant.
Times are displayed to the nearest minute as model approximations, not guaranteed second-level precision. All six cycles use the same return city; recalculate if you travel. The interpretations are original texts, without AI generation for each consultation.

What is a lunar return?
A lunar return is the chart for the moment when the Moon reaches the zodiacal position it occupied at your birth. In astrology, it provides a symbolic perspective on the period until the next return, usually about four weeks later.
It does not necessarily coincide with a new Moon, a full Moon or the start of a calendar month. Rather than adding a fixed 28 days, this calculator searches for each return using your birth date and time.
How to explore your next lunar cycle
- Enter your birth details. Use your recorded local date, time and city. You do not need to convert the time to UTC or adjust for daylight saving time.
- Choose where you will be. Use your usual city or your destination if you will be travelling. If it is not listed, enter coordinates and a time zone.
- Explore the cycles. The app opens the current cycle and offers the previous and upcoming ones. The optional reference date lets you change your starting point.
Without a reliable birth time, the return time and especially its houses can shift. That is why this tool asks for the time instead of automatically assuming noon.
What to look at in your lunar return chart
The Moon’s house suggests an initial theme: relationships, home, routines or projects, depending on the house. Its zodiac sign remains your natal Moon sign because the calculation seeks that same position.
The return Ascendant adds a second perspective. It depends on the moment and place, and does not replace your natal Ascendant. The app uses equal 30° houses, with the Midheaven calculated separately.
The third theme comes from the Moon’s tightest major aspect to another planet in this return chart. The wheel and table show the other qualifying contacts. If none falls within the chosen orb, the reading uses the solar focus.
Lunar and solar returns: two time scales
A solar return marks the Sun’s return to its natal longitude and is interpreted as an annual cycle. Lunar returns are more frequent. You can compare these symbolic perspectives without treating every coincidence as a prediction.
