How it is calculated and what it means

A composite chart takes the midpoint of the shortest arc between each pair of natal positions: Sun with Sun, Moon with Moon, and so on. It does not average dates or places and is not a Davison chart. Nor is it synastry: it draws a single symbolic chart of the bond.

We use the tropical zodiac and this website’s astronomical engine. With both birth times, we calculate the composite Ascendant by midpoints and twelve equal 30° houses from it. The Midheaven is calculated separately and need not coincide with the tenth house. Other calculators may use Placidus or a different house method and show different results.

Without a birth time, we use local noon only as a reference: Moon, Ascendant and houses are omitted, possible sign changes are checked, and only aspects remaining within the orb throughout the estimated time margin are shown. If two positions are exactly opposite or the midpoint changes branch within that margin, that point is omitted. Retrograde motion is not assigned to a midpoint chart.

Aspects: conjunction, square, trine and opposition up to 6°; sextile up to 4°. UTC conversion uses the historical birth time zone and allows a choice between repeated times. At latitudes of 66° north or south and beyond, Ascendant and houses are not shown. Accuracy depends on the birth details and the engine; this is not a professional ephemeris.

The interpretations are original texts matched to the calculated positions, without an AI request. Method reference: Astrodienst: composite charts.

What is a composite relationship chart?

A composite chart represents a relationship in astrology. Instead of placing two birth charts over one another, it creates a third chart from their midpoints. The reading focuses on the dynamic you share: how you cooperate, express affection and make room for different needs.

You do not need matching Sun signs or previous astrology knowledge. Enter both births and start with the four main facets. Then explore the wheel to connect each interpretation with a calculated planetary position.

If you have tried our relationship synastry, this reading does not replace it or have to reach the same conclusions. The focus shifts from who each person is to how the relationship takes shape.

Where to start reading

Aspects connect these facets. A square does not sentence a relationship to failure; a trine does not guarantee effortless happiness. Use them to reflect on a dynamic you recognise, not to count good and bad signs.

Can I calculate it without a birth time?

Yes, with a reduced, approximate reading. Select “I do not know the time” for the relevant birth. Local noon becomes a calculation reference, not an asserted birth time. Moon, Ascendant and houses are omitted; uncertain signs are flagged and aspects affected by the time margin are filtered.

Recalculate if you later find the time. Do not infer it from the description you prefer. Approximate times can help you explore, but angles and houses are particularly sensitive to this detail.

Why might another calculator show different houses?

This app uses equal houses from the composite Ascendant. Other methods include midpoints of Placidus cusps or houses calculated for a reference location. Compare methods before assuming a difference is an error. A Davison chart, based on an intermediate time and place, is another technique.

The wheel is a symbolic construction, not the actual sky on a date. It can contain configurations that do not occur in an ordinary birth chart. The method panel explains the orbs and which points are omitted when no unique midpoint can be established.

To explore each person separately, try the natal birth chart. This is symbolic astrology for entertainment, not a scientific compatibility measurement.
