Coffee ground reading

People have read coffee for as long as there has been coffee. The custom comes from Turkey and the Balkans: once you have finished the cup you turn it over onto the saucer, leave it to rest a while, and look at what the grounds have drawn on the walls. Nothing else is needed — no cards, no tools, no prior knowledge. Just a cup and the willingness to look.

What you are looking for is shapes. A bird, a key, a snake, a path — thirty symbols the tradition has been reading for centuries, and here they come with their meaning. But the symbol is only half of it: the other half is where it appears. The rim speaks of the immediate, of the days ahead; the wall, of what is under way and can still be bent; the grounds at the bottom, of the deep and the slow, of what you have been carrying for a long time.

Turn the cup over and read all three. The oracle points to one itself; the other two you read by tapping them. And if you have real coffee in front of you, all the better: look at your own cup while you read — that is what it is for.
